The pear shape also known as "teardrop" is a combination of the round and marquise brilliant cuts and usually has the 58 facet brilliant pattern, but can be cut with different numbers of pavilion mainly of 8, 7, 6, or 4 facets. The teardrop shape has a round or oval shape on half the facet pattern whiles the other half resembles a marquise with the sides tapering to a point.
The pear shape is a fiery cut with lots of wonderful sparkle and flash. The elegant lines of the Pear Shaped Diamond lend a sophisticated air to both the simplest and most elaborate ring settings
The optimum ratio between the length and width of a pear shape should be in the range of 1.45 to 1.75 for maximum brilliant (see attached).
