Half Moon

The Half Moon diamond is cut straight on one side and curved on the other, creating a unique shape. The Half Moon diamonds are mainly used as matched pairs in all colors and clarity for side stones to a center rectangular stone, Princess Cut, Radiant, Emerald, Asscher cut or even round.
Half Moon diamonds are also very popular with cushion cut center stones.
In the early days the Half Moon diamonds were cut from broken rounds and ovals. They were step cut, as were triangular diamonds. Today Half Moon diamonds are faceted differently, cut directly from the rough using brilliant cutting procedures similar to round or oval, making them more lively showing brightness and sparkle from side to side.
Half Moon diamonds can also be changed to Crescent Cut by rounding off the straight edge. This shape will be highly popular as side stones to an engagement ring using a center round or oval diamond.
